Environment

Introduction

We at Ace Wound Products Ltd, based in Barking, England, manufacture standard and customised high quality wire wound components/transformers for the telecommunication, security, emergency lighting, information technology, electronics and defence markets.

We are committed to responsible management practices that minimise any adverse environmental impacts arising from our activities, products and services.

Overall approach

To minimise the impact we have on the environment we will:

  • Ensure that we keep up to date and comply with all relevant environmental legislation.
  • Promote our environmental commitments to customers and suppliers and encourage them to adopt similar policies.
  • Ensure that this policy statement is publically available and that our supporting action plan is available for review if requested.
  • Focus on using our resources as efficiently as possible and ensure all team members know they have a part to play in helping to do this.
  • Monitor our copper and steel waste in particular and identify opportunities to reduce wastage.

Reducing our environmental impact

As a manufacturing company to follow are the particular areas in which we seek to continually improve our resource usage efficiency to reduce our environmental impact:

  • Reduction of steel and copper wastage – as our largest area of waste we will focus particularly on reducing the steel and cooper wasted through our manufacturing process. Firstly we seek to prevent as much waste as possible by ensuring our tools are operating efficiently and are well maintained. In addition we will train our team on proper tool use and techniques to try to reduce wastage. Secondly all wasted steel and copper will be recycled.
  • Waste electrical and electronic equipment – we will ensure that we at least comply with all of the obligations under The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive 2007.
  • Packaging re-use and reduction – we are a significant user of packaging for sending out our products and for receiving components. We will look at ways to reduce and re-use our packaging as much as possible and will prevent as much of it as possible from reaching landfill.
  • Energy use – we are committed to reduce our consumption of energy used for lighting and tools.
  • Training for the team – We will ensure that our team are fully aware of our environmental policy, conscious of how to use resources efficiently, use applicable recycling methods and are encouraged to make suggestions regarding how we can reduce our environmental impact further. We will also ensure our workplace is safe and have regular Health and Safety briefing sessions.

Accountability

The Director is responsible for the implementation of the action plan supporting this policy and to ensuring the commitments made in this policy are being met.

Implementation and Review

In implementing this Policy we will engage with our employees and suppliers and customers to ensure they are aware of our commitments to reduce our environmental impact.

In order to maintain an environmentally conscientious outlook, we review our policy statement annually. The date for the next review of this statement is due: 30 November 2011.

Mac Velani, Director, November 2010
